Engaging Learning Experience

Students will learn critical skills for today’s data-driven world including Excel, Python programming, visual charting and dashboard creation with Tableau, and collecting, cleaning, and plotting data with Python, Pandas, and Plotly.
Students will create sample portfolio pieces using real data sets and earn a certificate of completion from University of Pennsylvania’s College of Liberal and Professional Studies to showcase their accomplishment on college applications.
Students will study part-time through live, hands-on classes led by expert instructors. Attend online from the comfort of home, or any location.
Students will benefit from real-world learning experiences with maximum support. The virtual classroom environment allows students to ask questions, easily get help from instructional staff, and collaborate with their peers.
Students will gain valuable life skills applicable to future experiences, from critical thinking and problem-solving to teamwork and effective communication.

The Penn LPS High School Data Analytics Program was designed to equip students with the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for approaching — and solving — today’s real world problems with a data-driven mindset.

Rewarding Learning Experience

  • Students will explore the field of data analysis and visualization, learning to turn data into meaningful insights.
  • Students will gain hands-on experience and exposure to essential techniques, including:
    • Building maps, charts, and dashboards with industry-standard tools like Tableau
    • Using fundamental Python programming skills to work with data quickly and efficiently
    • Sorting, cleaning, and analyzing data with Pandas and creating unique Python applications within Jupyter Notebooks
    • Converting datasets in Python into interactive visualizations using the Plotly library
  • Students will develop and improve upon skills essential in the professional world, including logic and critical thinking, problem-solving, and working in a team setting.
  • Students receive personalized support from instructional staff and benefit from in-class collaboration, working both individually and in teams on sample portfolio projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dates of the program?

  • Classes begin soon
  • Live, virtual classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays for two hours after school, with 30 minutes dedicated to in-class office hours and tutoring support.

Can students study at the Penn LPS High School Data Analytics Program while maintaining their current schedule?

  • Yes. The program is designed with a part-time schedule in order for students to be able to attend while maintaining any existing after-school commitments.

How long is the course?

  • Students will complete this program in 13 weeks.

What is the tuition fee?

The tuition is $2,500. This program is not eligible for the Young Scholars Program. All students enrolled in this program pay full tuition, including Philadelphia residents who attend a School District of Philadelphia public or charter high school.

Do students need to have previous experience in programming before enrolling?

  • No previous experience is required.

Is the program open-enrollment and are there prerequisites?

  • Yes. The only requirements for enrollment are that you currently reside within the United States and be a high school student between the ages of 13 and 18 years old.

  • We offer a part-time program in partnership with Penn LPS, created exclusively for high school students to gain essential skills, introducing them to the knowledge and abilities needed to explore the field of data analysis and visualization.
  • Students apply the knowledge they gain throughout the program on sample projects that can be showcased within resumes or college applications.
  • Our curriculum is built based on industry-leading tools and technologies applicable to a wide range of professions.
  • Our instructional staff includes veteran data professionals with vast industry knowledge and previous experience teaching coding programs at top-tier universities.

My child is not in high school but they are interested in learning data analysis and visualization. Can they take this course?

  • No. This course is only open to students who are enrolled in high school (grades 9-12) in the 2021-2022 academic year, and between the ages of 13 and 18 years old.
  • For interested parties who are 18+ and have previously completed high school or a GED, you can explore Penn Data Analysis and Visualization Boot Camp.
